Willie Johnson spent the majority of his life without sight. His world was primarily one of sound. His early interests in music provide evidence that he may have been predisposed to aural proclivity, and the events of his life unwound into virtuosity. It is said that those who lose one sense experience others in a heightened state. I would argue that Willie Johnson not only experienced a heightened awareness of sound, but of the soul as well.
